The Italian road to sustainability

Smi and Antia conference

Social and environmental sustainability has become a key asset for companies in the textile and clothing sector, hence the conference on “Sustainable business – The value of sustainability for the ‘made in Italy’ sector”, organised by Sistema Moda Italia and Antia (Associazione Nazionale Tecnici Professionisti Sistema Moda/National Association for Technical Professionals in the Fashion Industry), at Dossobuono di Villafranca, in the province of Verona. According to experts, customers are likely to spend more to buy products with added sustainable value: the reputation of a brand is influenced by the responsible behaviour of the company. Therefore adopting good practices which are environmentally-friendly does not represent an extra cost for the company but rather a guarantee of a healthy and long-lasting business for companies and the people working within it. The speakers at the meeting were Piermario Barzaghi, of risk & compliance, climate change and sustainability practice at Kpmg Advisory and Francesca Rulli, sustainability & project manager at Process Factory. Following the speeches there was a round table featuring the participants: Andrea Crespi from Eurojersey, assistant sustainability consultant at Smi, Luca Galvani from operations at Giorgio Armani, Alberto Gregotti, President of Antia and Alfonso Saibene Canepa who spoke of the numerous years of experience in the domain of sustainability for the textile clothing sector.
